Updated 20 October 2026

TAS Country Bot is the website and Discord bot for the TAS roleplay server. A volunteer runs it as a hobby project. It is not a company and it doesn't sell anything. This page explains what it stores about you, why, who else sees it and how to have it removed. To ask about any of it, contact the server owner on the TAS Discord server.

What we store

  • Your Discord account basics: your Discord user ID, username, display name and avatar. These come from Discord when you sign in, using Discord's "identify" permission only. We never see your email address, password, messages or friends list.
  • Your Discord server roles are checked when you sign in or use the bot, to decide your site role (player, moderator, administrator or owner). Only the resulting site role is stored, not the list of roles.
  • Sign-in times (first and last sign-in) and a session record, so you stay signed in for up to 14 days. We store only a scrambled (hashed) copy of the session token.
  • The game content you and others create: nations, flags you upload, characters, governments, economies, armies, reports and roleplay channel links, including which Discord account claimed a nation.
  • An activity log of changes made on the site and through the bot: who did what and when, with the before and after values. It's there so staff can see what changed and undo mistakes or abuse. If the slur filter blocks some text, the first 200 characters of what was attempted are logged too.
  • Backups of the database are taken every night and before each update. The newest 14 are kept on the same server.

What we don't do

  • No adverts, no analytics or tracking scripts, and nothing is sold or shared with anyone for marketing.
  • Your IP address is used briefly in memory to stop request floods (rate limiting) and isn't written to the database.

Cookies and browser storage

  • ns_session keeps you signed in (14 days, or until you sign out).
  • ns_oauth_state protects the Discord sign-in from forgery and lasts 10 minutes.
  • Your appearance settings and which "Advanced" sections you left open are saved in your own browser (local storage). They never reach our server.

These are all strictly necessary for the site to work, so there's no consent banner.

Who else is involved

  • Discord handles sign-in and runs the bot's messages. Its own privacy policy applies to your Discord account.
  • Oracle Cloud hosts the server that runs the site, the bot and the database.
  • Google Fonts: the site's typefaces are loaded from Google's font service, which sees your IP address when it sends the font files.

Who can see your data

Everyone signed in can see every nation's name, tag and flag. A nation's government, economy, army and characters are visible to its own members and to the game's staff. Staff (moderators, administrators and the owner) can see the activity log. The owner can read the database and backups.

How long we keep it

Account details and game content are kept while the game runs. Ended seasons are archived so they can be reopened. Backups older than the newest 14 are deleted automatically.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data held about you, to have it corrected, or to have your account and the content linked to it deleted. Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR) you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). To make a request, contact the server owner on the TAS Discord server. Some activity-log entries may be kept, with your name removed, so the game's history stays consistent.

Age

You need a Discord account to use the site, and Discord requires users to be at least 13 (or older in some countries).

Changes

If what we store changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top changed.
